MGT Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Revived Study Tour to Japan

In commemoration of its 10th anniversary, the Department of Management (MGT) proudly revived its highly anticipated study tour programme this year. As a special tribute to this milestone, we selected Japan—a perennial favourite destination among Hong Kong travelers—for an immersive five-day, four-night academic and cultural expedition.

Academic Exchange at Hosei University

Students engaged in dynamic discussions with peers from Hosei University, one of Tokyo’s most prestigious private institutions, fostering cross-cultural dialogue and academic collaboration.

Industry Visits - ANA & JTB

During our visit to ANA Aviation Hub, students had the exclusive opportunity to witness firsthand how All Nippon Airways (ANA)—one of the world’s most renowned and award-winning airlines—maintains its reputation for operational precision, customer service, and technological innovation.

This visit not only underscored the complexities of airline management but also inspired students to consider the intersection of logistics, technology, and customer-centric strategies in their future careers.

At JTB Corporation—Japan’s largest and most influential travel agency—our students gained unparalleled insights into the business models, marketing strategies, and global trends shaping the future of tourism and hospitality.

By engaging with JTB’s leadership, students gained practical knowledge about competitive differentiation, customer engagement, and crisis management—key skills for aspiring professionals in tourism, marketing, and international business.

Cultural Visits

The study tour’s cultural and educational itinerary included three exceptional destinations:

  • At Small Worlds Tokyo, students explored the fascinating intersection of art and urban planning through meticulously crafted miniature cities, gaining insights into scale modeling techniques and urban design principles.
  • The visit to Miraikan – Japan’s National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation – exposed participants to groundbreaking technological advancements through interactive exhibits on robotics, space exploration, and sustainable futures.
  • Complementing these modern perspectives, the Imperial Palace visit provided a profound connection to Japan’s rich historical legacy, where students admired the architectural splendor and learned about the enduring cultural significance of this imperial residence, creating a holistic understanding of Japan’s unique blend of tradition and innovation.

Unique Experiential Learning

The study tour offered students unforgettable experiential learning opportunities, beginning with an electrifying Sumo Wrestling performance that showcased Japan’s revered sporting tradition—where raw power, disciplined technique, and centuries-old rituals converged in a captivating display of cultural heritage.

Complementing this traditional immersion, the visit to Tokyo Rinkai Disaster Prevention Park provided a sobering yet vital perspective on modern resilience; through a simulated earthquake drill, students gained hands-on training in crisis response, deepening their appreciation for Japan’s proactive approach to disaster preparedness and the universal importance of safety planning.

This study tour not only deepened students’ appreciation for Japanese culture but also provided invaluable opportunities to:

  • Network with international peers and industry leaders.

  • Bridge theory with practice through real-world corporate and scientific exposures.

  • Cultivate global perspectives essential for future management professionals.
