  • BBA (Hons) in Financial Analysis and FinTech

    The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Financial Analysis and Fintech Programme aims to prepare graduates with knowledge in both Financial Analysis and FinTech, allowing them to integrate with the competitive finance industry. A major focus of the programme is on the application of FinTech, artificial intelligence, big data analytics and blockchain. In addition, the programme closely follows the core competency of the recognised professional standard known as the “Chartered Financial Analyst Program Candidate Body of KnowledgeTM”. It equips students with core financial analytical skills to take professional qualification examinations and become effective investment professionals with essential FinTech knowledge.

    Programme Objectives

    Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to:

    • develop students’ analytical power, creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving ability;
    • cultivate students’ communication, interpersonal, leadership, and transferable skills as well as the desire for independent learning so they can continue their professional and personal development and/or further studies;
    • instill in students a strong sense of social responsibility and high commitment to professional ethics;
    • arouse students’ awareness of global issues and developments;
    • provide students with the practical knowledge and authentic skills necessary in the global investment profession;
    • develop students’ financial analytical ability to evaluate alternatives rationally for the purpose of decision making; and
    • enable students to appreciate the interface between financial analysis, financial technology and other areas in economics, management, investments, financial markets, international finance, financial services, and corporate strategy.

    • possess the ability to develop a framework for financial analysis and evaluate alternatives for the purpose of making informed decisions;
    • develop insights into practical applications of financial analysis and technology in a dynamic business environment.

    Admission and Graduation Requirements 

    Admission Requirements

    The application period for admission to the BBA-FAFT Programme follows those of other programmes offered by HSUHK, which is normally from November of the preceding year of study to August of the year of study.

    The minimum requirements for entry to Year 1 of the Degree Programmes are as follows:

    HKDSE subject 2023 or before 2024 and onwards
    Core Chinese Language Level 3 Level 3
    English Language Level 3 Level 3
    Mathematics (Compulsory Part) Level 2 Level 2

    Remarks:

    1 “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development will not be included in the admission score calculation. Level 2 or above in Liberal Studies attained in 2023 or before can be regarded as “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development for fulfilling the general entrance requirements.
    2 For HKDSE taken in 2023 or before, only Category A Elective subjects are taken into consideration of meeting the General Entrance Requirements. Mathematics Extended Part Module 1 / Module 2 is not counted as an elective subject in 2023 or before.
    3 For HKDSE takers starting from 2024 and onwards, Category A Elective subjects (Mathematics Extended Part exclusive), Category B (Applied Learning Subjects) and Category C (Other Language Subjects) can be counted as elective subjects. The minimum requirements are:

    Category A subjects: Level 2

    Category B subjects4: Attained

    Category C subjects: Grade E

    No more than one subject from Category B or Category C will be counted in the Best Five Subject HKDSE score calculation.

    4 Category B: Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is excluded in score calculation.

    For students who possess qualifications other than the above, your applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

    Graduation Requirements

    In the four-year Programme, students will be required to study at least 41 modules of 120 credits for graduation. The Programme consists of three major areas of study: General Education, Business Education, and Financial Analysis and Fintech.

    General Education

    These modules are intended to strengthen students’ general skills, increase their knowledge in local and global affairs, and broaden their horizons. The modules provide a broad knowledge base across the academic disciplines of the humanities, social sciences, and science, with the objective of helping students to acquire an intellectual and integrative ability from an inter-disciplinary perspective in regard to the issues and challenges in the 21st century.

    Students are required to take 7 modules from the General Education domain, including:

    • 1 foundation module
    • 1 core module chosen from each of the General Education clusters:
      • Cluster 1 – Humanities
      • Cluster 2 – Social Sciences
      • Cluster 3 – Science, Medicine and Technology
      • Cluster 4 – Moral Reasoning
    • 2 electives, in which “Capstone Project on General Education” can be chosen as one of the electives.

    Business Education

    These modules provide students with a broad foundation in business education and help them to develop business acumen. Modules from General Education and Business Education complement the fundamentals of financial analysis and investment decision making.

    Financial Analysis and FinTech

    These modules provide students with the specific skills and knowledge required for financial analysis and FinTech. Modules in this area are intended to track five major aspects: Ethical and Professional Standards, Investment Tools, Asset Classes, Portfolio Management and Wealth Planning, and FinTech related applications. The overall emphasis is on basic skills and knowledge, with some higher order learning skills such as analysis and synthesis.

    In order to be eligible to obtain a BBA-FAFT degree, students must have fulfilled both the academic and the University graduation requirements.

    Academic Graduation Requirements

    • completed and obtained a grade of D or better in at least 41 modules (120 credits), including all core modules;
    • obtained an overall GPA of 2.0 or above for all modules;

    University Graduation Requirements

    • fulfilled language competency exit requirement
    English Putonghua
    Requirement All degree students are required to attempt the IELTS examination and achieve a score of 6.0 or above before their final year of study.

    If a student fails to satisfy the above requirement, he/she is required to take and pass an English enhancement module offered by the Department of English in their final year of study.

    All degree students are required to attempt the Putonghua Proficiency Test (普通話水平測試) and to attain the level of 三級乙等or above before their final year of study.

    If a student fails to satisfy the above requirement, he/she is required to take a Putonghua enhancement module offered by the Department of Chinese in their final year of study.

    To echo with the University’s “Desired Graduate Attributes – iGPS”, a new framework of iGPS Unit and College Assembly – HSUHK Liberal Agora is set to enhance the atmosphere of holistic learning and student development.

    What is iGPS Unit?

    iGPS unit is equivalent to voluntary participation in a non-credit bearing co-curricular activity or event, which is not a course requirement, in relation to the development of iGPS.

    *Not more than nine iGPS units would be counted as the fulfilment of iGPS Unit requirement in a particular academic year.
    *Two College Assembly – HSUHK Liberal Agora of which should be attended during the second to fourth years of study.
