As a BBA-GB student, my internship at the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) was an enriching experience that enhanced my studies by offering hands-on exposure to regulatory practice and deepening my understanding of financial regulation.
During my internship, I had the opportunity to gain valuable insights. I also learned more about the role of the SFC as an independent statutory body. In addition to licensing market participants, the SFC plays a crucial role in ensuring a healthy and competitive environment that is fair, efficient, and transparent. It safeguards investors, combats financial misconduct, and promotes public awareness regarding market operations and investment risks. These efforts contribute to strengthening Hong Kong’s status as an international financial center.
The working atmosphere at the SFC was both challenging and supportive. I encountered a range of new experiences, which included undertaking a variety of tasks I had never performed before, and learning to navigate their internal systems for daily work. Despite these challenges, my supervisors were willing to guide me and encouraged me to ask questions, which helped me to overcome them. This internship has enhanced my critical thinking and professional skills, while improving my technical knowledge.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to intern at the SFC and would recommend that students apply to its summer internship programme. The internship lasts for 8 weeks and applications can be submitted online or through our school’s nomination. I also encourage every student to secure at least one internship during their university studies, as gaining practical work experience is important for preparing for future careers.
