Year 3 and Year 4 students from the Department of Economics and Finance visited TP ICAP, an FTSE 250 market infrastructure provider and the world’s largest inter-dealer broker in over-the-counter markets, to learn about the firm’s operations, culture, and early-career pathways. The program included an introduction to TP ICAP and its global footprint.
CEO Anthony Mak shared his career journey and insights into broking, emphasizing resilience, relationship-building, and adaptability in navigating dynamic markets and serving institutional clients. His discussion highlighted how brokers collaborate across voice, electronic, and hybrid channels to achieve price discovery and efficient execution.
On the broking floor, students observed live market action, gaining a practical understanding of various investment products and how teams coordinate to manage information flow and client needs under time pressure. The immersive experience connected classroom learning with real-world practice.
The session also outlined junior talent pathways—including internships and trainee roles—featuring structured on-desk learning and clear development values. The School of Business extends its sincere thanks to TP ICAP and CEO Anthony Mak for an impactful and inspiring visit.
This post features two photos from the visit: Pic 1 – a photo of Dr David Chui presenting a souvenir to CEO Anthony Mak in appreciation of his time and support, and Pic 2 – a group photo taken after the broking floor visit, where students experienced a first-hand view of the trading environment.
