Handmade Rubber Seal Crafting Workshop

The Department of Management recently hosted a special initiative to celebrate and preserve Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage – the traditional art of handmade rubber seal crafting. This unique art form beautifully blends creativity with centuries-old tradition, representing an important part of our local cultural identity.

On April 10, we were honored to present two immersive workshops conducted by master artisan Mr Jason Kwok. These hands-on sessions offered participants the rare opportunity to:

  • Learn directly from a seasoned expert in this specialised craft

  • Create their own personalised rubber seals

  • Gain deeper appreciation for this traditional art form

The workshops proved tremendously popular, with both sessions reaching full capacity. The enthusiastic participation demonstrated our community’s strong interest in preserving Hong Kong’s valuable cultural traditions.

As part of our cultural programming, we proudly presented a special exhibition showcasing nearly 5,000 locally used Chinese characters, each meticulously hand-carved by artist Jason. This remarkable display offered visitors a unique opportunity to explore the beauty and complexity of Chinese script through these exquisite handcrafted pieces.

Complementing this exhibition, the MGT initiative created an interactive Ema Wall experience, inviting both students and staff to participate in this traditional Japanese cultural practice. Participants were encouraged to create and hang their own wooden wish plaques, adding a personal touch to this meaningful installation while fostering cross-cultural understanding within our campus community.
