Alumni Stories

Jimson Chiu (2022 BBA-FB Graduate)

Looking back, my time at HSUHK really shaped both my personal and professional journey. I studied Finance and Banking, and some of my most vivid memories are prepping late at night in the Bloomberg Lab for case competitions or scrambling to finish group presentations before class. What made the experience even more meaningful was the support I received along the way — from helpful coursemates to dedicated professors like Dr. David Chui and Dr. Kaz Kwok, who were always generous with their guidance and encouragement.

One of the most valuable opportunities I had was being nominated to lead our team in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. It pushed me to apply what I learned in a real-world setting and gave me confidence stepping into the finance industry. Since then, I’ve held a few roles and now work as a research analyst at a family office, focusing on macro strategy and top-down investing. Even today, I find myself using many of the skills and ways of thinking I picked up during those years at HSUHK.

To current students: get involved early. Take on new challenges, explore the resources your department offers, and don’t hesitate to reach out to alumni — many are more than willing to share their experiences. University is more than just lectures and exams; it’s also about building the mindset and relationships that will carry you forward. Make the most of it.
