It is both a privilege and a profound honor to reflect on my journey as a graduate of HSUHK with a BBA in Finance and Banking. Today, as a Client Account Manager at UBS AG, I am grateful for the transformative two years I spent at HSUHK—a period that equipped me with unparalleled opportunities and mentorship.
HSUHK is committed to bridging academia with real-world finance. As a student, I gained internship opportunities that are exclusive to HSUHK, including interning at Bank of China’s Global Markets Department in Frankfurt and Hang Seng Indexes’ Global ETF team. These experiences became my competitive edge in a crowded job market.
What truly sets HSUHK apart is its people. Here, professors are mentors, not distant academics. Tutorials aren’t led by Teaching Assistants but by accomplished faculty professors like Dr. David Chui, our Programme Director. Dr. Chui’s interesting teaching demystified complex topics, fixed income became not difficult at all, and his pragmatic career advice was crucial in securing my Frankfurt internship. Even today, I am still deeply impressed by his metaphor for structured products, which made me build up a strong interest in structured products from that moment. He is always a genuine investment in every student’s potential.
The Department of Economics and Finance is equipped with a lot of industry-like resources. Where else can students engage with more Bloomberg Terminals than HSUHK except the trading floor of top-tier financial institutions. Beyond technology, EAF offers students to participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge and trading competition via Interactive Brokers. I earned valuable practical hands-on experience in equity research and trading as a result. Additionally, EAF supports student CFA certification pursuits, offering training and incentives such as scholarships for the Exam Fee.
The curriculum of FB masterfully balanced theory with practice. I have applied countless concepts learned at my alma mater directly in my role at UBS. HSUHK and EAF didn’t just educate me; they launched my career. I am proud to be an alumnus and look forward to fellow students’ success. Just knock on the professors’ doors; they are always open. Afraid there is no track record of our students getting into a top-tier firm? You could be the first one.
