Dr. Roman Matousek is an internationally recognized scholar in banking, finance, and financial economics, with a distinguished record of academic, research, and policy engagement across Europe, Asia, and the United States. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Economics and Finance at the School of Business, Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. Prior to this, he held senior academic and leadership positions at Queen Mary University of London and the University of Nottingham, both members of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group.
His research spans banking efficiency, financial innovation, monetary economics, and FinTech, with influential publications in top-tier international journals, including the Journal of Banking & Finance, Journal of Corporate Finance, European Journal of Operational Research, and Research Policy. He is also the co-editor of The Palgrave Handbook of FinTech and Blockchain and the author of Cross-Border Interbank Contagion Risk Analysis (Cambridge University Press).
Dr. Matousek has an extensive editorial record, having served as associate editor and guest editor for several leading journals, among them the Journal of Banking & Finance, Economic Modelling, China Economic Review, and the Journal of International Financial Markets, Institutions & Money. He is also a frequent keynote speaker at major international conferences, where he shares expertise on financial stability, banking innovation, and regulation.
Beyond academia, he has contributed directly to policy and practice through collaborations with central banks and international financial institutions, including the Bank of England, SEACEN in Kuala Lumpur, and Citicorp Global Research. His work bridges theory and application, bringing valuable policy insights into his academic research.
An active supporter of global academic exchange, he has held distinguished visiting professorships at the top-tier universities in China (Tongji University, Beihang University), as well as in Malaysia, and Japan.
