Department’s Academic Advisory Board Member, Professor Edward Lee, Professor of Accounting and Finance at the Alliance Manchester Business School of the University of Manchester, visited us from 6 – 10 October 2025.
During his visit, Professor Lee hosted a seminar titled “Cross-border institutional spillover through intra-industry information spillover: The impact of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in China” on 8 October. In the seminar, Professor Lee examined how the enforcement of the US Foreign Corruption Practices Act (FCPA) generates intra-industry information spillovers that trigger cross-border institutional spillovers in China. The findings revealed that disclosures related to FCPA enforcement—whether pertaining to China or not—result in a valuation discount for Chinese firms, particularly for those more susceptible to corruption allegations. Conversely, non-China-related enforcements generally produce a valuation premium.
Professor Lee has actively engaged with faculty members through various interactions, including lunch gatherings and individual consultations. These collaborative opportunities have fostered a supportive academic environment that encourages the exchange of ideas and insights related to research.
