WiSA and ACY Host Joint Seminar on Generative AI and Tax Investigation

The seminar titled “Business Health Unleashed – The Power of Generative AI and Insights into Tax Investigations” was successfully held on 9 October 2025, attracting an enthusiastic audience of over 140 students eager to deepen their understanding of the evolving business landscape.  This event was a joint seminar organised by WiSA and the Department of Accountancy.

The event opened with a compelling presentation by Mr. Clive Yip, Director of Data Analytics, Audit and Advisory Services at Manulife.  Mr. Yip explored the transformative potential of generative AI in the accounting profession, highlighting how advanced AI technologies are reshaping traditional accounting practices, improving accuracy, enhancing decision-making, and driving innovation across the industry.  His talk offered students a forward-looking perspective on how AI can revolutionise workflows and create new opportunities in accounting.

Following this, two distinguished experts from PwC, Mr. Philip Hung, Director of Tax Controversy Services and Tax and Business Advisory Services, and Mr. Felix Tsang, Associate Director of the same division, shared invaluable insights on the practical aspects of tax investigations.  Their presentation, titled “The Anatomy of a Tax Investigation: Step-by-Step Through Real Cases”, walked students through real-world tax investigation scenarios, enriched by interesting case examples and engaging video materials.  These resources provided students with a vivid and practical understanding of tax investigation processes, common challenges, and strategies for effective resolution.

The seminar proved to be an excellent opportunity for students to engage with industry leaders, gain practical knowledge, and appreciate the powerful impact of technology and expert advisory in maintaining business health.
