SBUS Supported the July Exchange Trip to Thailand and Laos

From July 4 to July 10, 2025, the Belt and Road Pioneer organized an enriching study trip titled “Silk Road Exploration into Laos”, aimed at enhancing knowledge exchange and fostering connections with Thailand and Laos. This initiative follows the success of the 8th Belt and Road Initiative Integrated Abilities Competition, supported by the HSUHK School of Business on April 26, 2025, which highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation among students, academics and business professionals under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Representing the School of Business on this trip were Professor Phyllis Mo, Dr. Pauline Wong, and Mr. Ricky Lam. They joined other leaders and advisors of the Belt and Road Pioneer, along with a diverse group of over 30 students from various secondary schools and universities across Hong Kong. This collaborative effort underscored the commitment of both the Belt and Road Pioneer and the School of Business to promote educational opportunities and cultural exchange.

During the trip, participants had the opportunity to visit a range of private and state-owned enterprises, including Lalamove in Thailand, Bank of China, Lao-China Railway Co. Ltd, Ernst & Young, and the Vientiane Saysetha Development Zone in Laos. They also visited government bureaus, such as the Ministry of Education & Sports and the Ministry of Information, Culture & Tourism in Laos, as well as academic institutions like Vientiane Secondary School, the University of Laos, and the Confucius Institute. These visits were designed to provide firsthand insights into the economic landscape, business practices, and educational frameworks of both countries. Engaging with local leaders and experts, students and faculty members gained valuable knowledge about the unique challenges and opportunities within the ASEAN region.

The study trip not only facilitated meaningful interactions between Hong Kong students and their counterparts in Thailand and Laos but also fostered a deeper understanding of the Belt and Road Initiative’s objectives. By immersing themselves in the local culture and business environment, participants were able to broaden their perspectives and enhance their global competence.

The HSUHK School of Business, in partnership with the Belt and Road Pioneer, remains dedicated to supporting initiatives that empower students and promote regional cooperation, especially with the ASEAN countries.
