Programme Overview
The Accountancy Mentorship Programme (“Programme” thereafter) is designed to connect Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4 students in the BBA in Professional Accountancy and BBA in Corporate Governance and Compliance programmes with experienced professionals in accountancy, corporate governance, and compliance, and related industries. The programme aims to:
- Provide mentees with career guidance, industry insights, and professional advice.
- Help mentees develop soft skills critical for their future careers.
- Foster meaningful and prolonged mentor-mentee relationships that encourage mutual learning and growth.
Accountancy Mentorship Programme 2025/2026
- Duration: September 2025 to August 2026
- Inaugural Mentor-Mentee Pairing Event – 3 October 2025
- Gathering Event: Bridging Classroom Theory with Real-World Business Strategy – 7 February 2026
Programme Structure
Mentor-Mentee Pairing
- Each mentor will guide two to four mentees.
- The mentees will be from different academic years of the BBA-PA and BBA-CGC Programme (e.g., Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4). This structure is intended to facilitate communication and collaboration among students at different stages of their academic journey. This year, 26 mentees have been selected into the programme
This year, we have engaged 10 mentors with diverse expertise in accounting, finance, and related sectors. Primarily based in Hong Kong, these mentors bring a wealth of knowledge, with work experience tiers ranging from 5 to over 20 years.
Rolling Mentorship Programme
- The programme adopts a rolling structure, allowing mentors and mentees to continue participating in subsequent cohorts in the next academic year if they wish.
- When Year 4 students graduate, new Year 2 students will be invited to join the Mentorship Programme. This ensures continuity and allows mentors to support a dynamic group of students across different academic years.
Mentorship Programme Activities
To ensure a structured and enriching experience, the following activities are arranged for mentors and mentees to participate:
Monthly or Bi-monthly Group Meetings
- Mentors and mentees meet on a monthly or bi-monthly basis to discuss their goals, challenges, and progress. Meetings can be held in person or virtually.
- Activities/discussion in the meeting could be, but not limited to, preparing for a job/internship interview, reviewing CVs for mentees, sharing expectations from employers’ point of view, or discussing news and updates related to the accounting or governance profession.
- Workshops and Seminars – Join programme-organized workshops and seminars on topics such as emerging trends in accounting, professional qualifications, Corporate Governance and Compliance & soft skills development.
Shadowing Opportunities
- We also encourage mentors to provide mentees with the opportunity to observe their work environment to gain real-world exposure.
Skill-Building Challenges
- Mentors and mentees are to collaborate on hands-on activities such as mock client presentations, tax planning exercises, audit simulations, or mock interviews.
- A flagship example is the HSUHK Boardroom Challenge in February 2026. This interactive simulation brings mentors and mentees together to analyze real-world business cases and collaborate on crafting the winning investment proposal.
