HSUHK School of Business Concludes “Coffee with Strangers” Chatters Training Programme to Empower Elite Students

The School of Business recently concluded an interactive interpersonal communication training programme titled “Coffee with Strangers” Chatters Training Programme, successfully equipping some elite business students with essential communication competencies to enhance their interpersonal connections and social service capabilities.

Designed to foster effective communication and empathetic engagement, the programme comprised core training sessions, practical practicum, and a social outreach activity held at Shun Lee Catholic Secondary School on 9 April. Focusing on three core areas—Actual Listening, Non-judgmental Presence, and Powerful Questioning—it aimed to help students master intentional communication skills, nurture open-mindedness, and apply these abilities in real-world scenarios.

Through hands-on practice and guided interactions, participants developed the capacity to build authentic connections with both strangers and acquaintances, support peers’ emotional needs, and cultivate a non-judgmental, supportive campus culture. The social outreach session further allowed students to translate their learned skills into community service, reinforcing their awareness of empathetic communication’s role in personal mental well-being and social harmony.

This programme not only enhanced students’ communication proficiency but also empowered them to contribute more effectively to the campus and community, aligning with SBUS’s commitment to nurturing well-rounded, socially responsible future business leaders.
