HSUHK School of Business Conducts Admission Talks and Institutional Engagement in Guangzhou to Strengthen Greater Bay Area Connections

The School of Business conducted a series of admission talks and institutional visits in Guangzhou on 29 April 2026. The delegation held an on-site admission talk at Guangzhou College of Commerce and visited Guangdong University of Science and Technology, engaging with students, faculty members, and institutional representatives. The visit adopted a face-to-face, interactive approach, allowing prospective students and partners to gain a clearer understanding of postgraduate study opportunities and academic planning.

The delegation was led by Prof. Victor Lau, Associate Dean (Taught Postgraduate Programmes), and Ms. Fiona Fong, Postgraduate Programme Manager. Through both the admission talks and institutional meetings, the School strengthened connections with Mainland institutions and enhanced mutual understanding.

Guangzhou College of Commerce: A Structured Approach to Study Planning

At the admission talk held at Guangzhou College of Commerce, the session was delivered in a structured format, covering study pathways, programme options, and future career directions.

Prof. Lau noted that, when planning further studies, students should consider their personal interests, capability development, and long-term career goals. He emphasised the importance of gradually building analytical and applied skills throughout the learning process in order to navigate an evolving business environment.

During the subsequent Q&A session, a student asked, “If my undergraduate background is not in business, would it still be possible to transition into a related field in the future?”

Prof. Lau responded, “Rather than focusing solely on whether a change in discipline is possible, students should consider the capabilities they wish to develop and the types of roles they aspire to pursue.”

During the subsequent session, Ms. Fiona Fong introduced several taught postgraduate programmes, including the Master of Business Management (MBM), Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Management (MSc‑EM), and Master of Business Administration (in Chinese) (MBA (C)). She outlined programme positioning, study arrangements, and key application considerations.

Guangdong University of Science and Technology: Extending Dialogue on Talent Development

On the same day, the delegation visited Guangdong University of Science and Technology, where they first met with Prof. Xiao Tan, Dean of the School of Management, followed by an on-site admission talk introducing postgraduate programmes and study pathways. During the institutional meeting, Prof. Victor Lau and Ms. Fiona Fong exchanged views with Prof. Tan on student development, teaching practices, and potential areas for future collaboration.

In the subsequent admission talk and Q&A session, a student asked, “How should postgraduate students strike a balance between theoretical learning and practical application?

Prof. Lau responded, “Students should consciously connect what they learn with real-life contexts, gradually building analytical capabilities and applied experience throughout their studies.

Ms. Fong further noted that effective study planning and the strategic use of programme resources are equally important in supporting students’ development.

Strengthening Engagement Across the Greater Bay Area

The Guangzhou visit combined student-focused admission activities with institutional engagement, enhancing awareness of the School of Business among Mainland students while strengthening ties with partner institutions across the Greater Bay Area.

Looking ahead, the School will continue to organise a diverse range of outreach and engagement initiatives across Mainland China, further expanding its network and supporting students in making informed academic and career decisions.
