The Department of Management hosted a Management Research Seminar, “Geopolitics and Geo-strategies as IB Frontier,” on 27 May, featuring Professor Yadong LUO, Academic Advisory Board member and Professor at the University of Miami Herbert Business School.
The seminar examined how geopolitical dynamics are reshaping international business (IB), introducing a global disorder framework characterised by geopolitical tensions, institutional divergence, and economic fragmentation. It highlighted emerging shifts in IB thinking, moving away from integration-led models towards fragmentation and resilience-driven strategies.
Professor Luo also reviewed key geopolitical theories and their integration with IB research, offering new directions for analysing firm behaviour in an evolving global landscape. Practical implications focused on geo-strategic responses, including recalibration of global value chains, resilience-building, and new forms of regionalisation, alongside the growing relevance of multi-polar geo-strategy in navigating multiple centres of global influence.
