The Department of Economics and Finance organized the Hong Kong Summer School in Experimental Economics and Behavioral Economics from Aug 17-20, 2026. The exciting summer school – first of its kind in Hong Kong – emphasized cultivating and inspiring students’ creativity and research potential, attracted a diverse group of participants, including high school students in Hong Kong and mainland China (e.g., Hangzhou), as well as local university students. During the summer school, talks, workshops, and social activities were organized.
Professor Pakhung Au (HKUST), Professor Darwin Choi (HKUST), Professor Syngjoo Choi (Seoul National University), Professor Songfa Zhong (HKUST), and Professor King King Li (HSUHK) gave talks during the summer school covering topics such as asymmetric information, choice under risk and uncertainty, behavioral finance, AI and decision making, and experimental design. They also interacted with the summer school participants in the sports events and hiking. Professor Chew Soo Hong (SWUFE & NUS, Fellow of Econometric Society) gave an online talk about framing, attention, and choice under risk. Professor Jeanne Fu, Vice-President (Learning and Student Experience) and Professor Roman Matousek (Head, Department of Economics and Finance) joined the poster presentation session and presented awards to students.

A highlight of the summer school was that students formed groups to work on a group project on experimental design for a topic chosen by themselves. They gave poster presentations at the end of the summer school and answered questions from professors and the audience.
Two students were awarded the Future Experimental Economist Award for their outstanding academic performance and potential in Experimental Economics.
