On 2 October, a team of four Year 4 Marketing students, led by senior Lecturer Roy Ying, won the Hong Kong round of a MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) proposal competition. With this win, the HSUHK team will represent Hong Kong at the Asia Federation of Exhibition and Convention Association (AFECA) Convention in Xiamen, Fujian Province, from 21 to 23 November. They will compete against university students from more than 20 Asian countries and regions.
The winning students are all from the Marketing Department: Kyle Lester Torres Villarosa, Kimberly Chelsea Siu, Stephanie Ki, and Kathy Ka Ying Chan. They will receive a free trip, including travel, accommodation, and conference fees, from the Hong Kong Exhibition & Convention Industries Association (HKECIA).
Ms. Wendy Lai, HKECIA Chairman and the judging panel chair, said: “I was impressed by the depth of the Hang Seng team’s research, creativity of the event concept, the quality of their presentation, and, most of all, their choice of topic, mental wellness, a very important and pressing issue. On behalf of HKECIA, I wish to congratulate them and wish them every success in Xiamen.”
The team credits their win to applying what they learned in their Marketing programme, particularly the Event Marketing and Management module, where they learned that events are best conceived to address an emerging social need. The team proposed a brand new WORKWELL EXPO, to be held in Hong Kong focusing on workplace mental wellness that connects working professionals with wellbeing support, while addressing sustainability through practical, long-term solutions.
