The Department of Economics and Finance brought BBA-Financial Analysis and FinTech (BBA-FAFT) Year 1 and Year 3 senior intake students together for a full-day Mathematics for Financial Analysis Taster Programme on 25 August 2026. Packed into three back-to-back 2.5-hour sessions from 09:15 to 18:00 in campus, the programme gave participants a confident head-start on the quantitative foundations that run through their whole university study.
A Full Day of Core Foundations
Across the day, students moved from the mathematics that powers modern finance, functions, differentiation, optimisation, and matrix and vector algebra, into statistics, where summary statistics and probability distributions taught them to read uncertainty and spot the patterns behind markets. The programme closed on its most applied note, with financial statements and the time value of money: discounting, compounding, and the present and future value of cash flows and annuities turned textbook formulas into working tools for valuation.
The programme left BBA-FAFT students with a firmer grip on the mathematics, statistics, and valuation concepts at the heart of their studies, and plenty of drive for the year ahead.
