The team comprised Teresa Au (HRM-4), Athena Lung Tin Yan (HRM-4), and Formica Chow Wui Ling (GBM-4). Coached by Dr Bernard Luk, Senior Lecturer of MGT and with strong encouragement from Mr David Wong, Lecturer of MGT, who served as an HSUHK member on the judging panel, the team developed a compelling proposal titled, “AI to Empower, People to Lead,” which earned high praise from the judges.

The judging panel recognised the HSUHK team’s significant effort and was so inspired by Teresa Au’s exceptional presentation that they recommended the HKMA create a “Best Presenter Award” for next year’s Hackathon. Another judge highlighted the team’s excellent performance, especially their teamwork and seamless coordination during the Q&A session.

This year’s challenge, sponsored by Fujifilm Business Innovation Hong Kong, centered on a real-world business case covering recruitment, training, engagement, and retention. The judging panel praised the HSUHK proposal for its practicality, noting that the recommendations made directly tackled the HR problems faced by Fujifilm. The team’s innovative AI solution emphasized the crucial role of HR professionals as “gatekeepers”—using AI as a practical tool to empower employees while ensuring responsible, human-led decision-making.

The Hackathon serves as a vital platform for students to tackle real-life business challenges and for knowledge exchange among HR professionals, academics, and the next generation of HR leaders. In recognition of the strength and relevance of their proposal, the HSUHK team was proudly awarded the first runner-up.

Reflecting on the achievement, Dr Luk, the team’s coach, remarked, “This achievement is a testament to our students’ dedication, creativity, and ability to apply academic knowledge to solving complex business challenges. Their success in a competition sponsored by a global technology leader such as Fujifilm demonstrates their readiness to become the next generation of HR innovators. The HSUHK team’s accomplishment clearly reflects the School of Business’s commitment to nurturing competent and responsible leaders while fostering the creative and dynamic growth of global society.”
