The School of Business at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (HSUHK) organized the Silicon Valley Immersion Programme from 28 May to 7 June in collaboration with the University of San Francisco (USF). The programme brought together postgraduate students from the Master of Business Management (MBM) and Master of Science in Entrepreneurial Management (MSc-EM) for an experiential learning journey in one of the world’s leading innovation hubs.

Accompanied by Dr. King King Li and Ms. Kanas Chan, students explored Silicon Valley and San Francisco through lectures, company visits, and hands-on workshops. The experience helped them connect academic knowledge with real-world business practices and emerging technologies.

Learning from Industry Leaders

Students attended sessions led by distinguished speakers from academia and industry, including venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and technology executives. Topics covered included innovation, leadership, venture capital, and digital transformation, offering students valuable insights into the global business landscape.

One of the key highlights of the program is a series of workshops, lectures, and sharing sessions led by renowned speakers. Students have the opportunity to learn from Kurt Keilhacker, Partner at Elementum Ventures; Rebecca Tower, Adjunct Professor at the USF School of Management and Founder of ThoughtPartner; and Dr. Mark Cannice, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Startup Advisor.

The programme also featured Hap Klopp, Founder and Former President of The North Face; Gery Gutnik, Senior Director of Product Management at Salesforce and former product leader at Facebook; and Jonathan Reichental, Founder and CEO of Human Future, to share their insights.  Covering topics from entrepreneurial leadership and product innovation to business growth and the future of technology, they offered students diverse perspectives.

Visiting the Innovation Ecosystem

Company visits enabled students to witness how ideas are transformed into scalable businesses within Silicon Valley’s vibrant startup and technology landscape. Visits included Verizon Innovation Lab, Plaud AI, Plug and Play, and the Google campus, offering first-hand exposure to startup ecosystems and corporate innovation.

Cultural Exploration and Global Perspective

Students also explored San Francisco’s landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge and the USF campus, gaining a broader appreciation of the cultural context that supports innovation and higher education.

A Meaningful Experience

Through workshops and coaching sessions, students enhanced their skills in elevator pitching and business presentations. These activities strengthened their ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently.

The programme concluded with final business plan presentations, where students showcased their understanding of entrepreneurship, market analysis, and strategic thinking.

Students valued the opportunity to learn from leading speakers, visit the heart of innovation and entrepreneurship, and deepen their connections through cross-programme interaction between MBM and MSc-EM students.
