The Department of Economics and Finance took students on a four-day learning journey to Singapore from 3 Aug to 6 Aug. Mixing campus exchange, frontline finance, and city immersion, the trip gave participants a real-world look at how FinTech and AI are reshaping banking, regulation, and sustainable development across one of Asia’s smartest cities.
Highlights:
National University of Singapore (NUS)
At NUS, students joined a session and toured the campus of a top Asian university. They explored how its research pushes the boundaries of AI in finance and data-driven business. These ideas can be carried straight back into their own studies.

China–Singapore Financial Expo Hall (中新金融博览館)
The Expo Hall laid out the deepening money links between China and Singapore. Interactive displays highlighted cross-border payments, RMB internationalisation, and the FinTech rails joining the two markets, a clear view of where regional finance is heading.

Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Exhibition
Inside the MAS, Singapore’s central bank and regulator, students traced the nation’s monetary story and saw how AI-assisted surveillance and forward-looking policy keep the financial hub stable and trusted.

Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore)
At Standard Chartered, students saw AI and automation running live across wealth management and sustainable finance. Bank professionals explained how intelligent systems accelerate decisions and reshape the client experience, turning textbook ideas into working operations.

Marina Barrage & Sustainable Singapore Gallery
The trip closed on a greener note. At Marina Barrage and the Sustainable Singapore Gallery, students saw how smart water systems and green tech power a low-carbon city, proof that financial innovation and sustainability can advance together.

The tour left students with sharper insight into FinTech, AI, and the future of finance — and plenty of drive for what comes next.
