On 23 April 2026, around 40 ACY students participated in an engaging and insightful KPMG Experience Day, co-organized by KPMG, ICAEW, and the ACY Department. The event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of the accounting profession and inspire their career and professional qualification journeys.
The event featured distinguished guests and speakers, including Mr. Alisdair Jessup, Partner at KPMG; Ms. Azlina Bulmer, Director of International, ICAEW; and Mr. Jaymal Amin, Co-Chair of the Leaders Under 40 Committee, ICAEW. They shared their personal career aspirations and emphasized the importance of pursuing professional qualifications as a solid foundation for career advancement.
Beyond technical competence, the speakers highlighted the critical role of soft skills such as communication, teamwork, time management, and task prioritization in achieving professional success. They also discussed the evolving role of artificial intelligence (AI) in accounting. While AI supports many tasks, professional judgment and skepticism remain essential qualities that technology cannot replace, especially to identify and mitigate potential errors and biases associated with AI.
The speakers also illustrated the diverse nature of accounting professionals, noting that people from various backgrounds, cultures, interests, and work styles contribute uniquely to the profession. They encouraged students to step outside their comfort zones to explore different experiences and define their own unique paths as future accountants.
Students actively engaged throughout the event, asking insightful questions and participating enthusiastically in networking sessions. The valuable insights shared by the speakers provided fresh perspectives and motivation as students plan their careers and pursue professional qualifications.
