Overview

The Mentorship Programme (MP) is one of two mandatory components that constitute the graduation requirement for eligible undergraduate business programmes of the School of Business (SBUS). Completion of MP is a mandatory graduation requirement for eligible undergraduate business programmes, to be rolled out progressively on an intake cohort basis. The Work-Integrated Learning Programme (WILP) serves as the second mandatory component under this graduation framework.

The MP is introduced to:

  • Bridge the gap between theory and practice by connecting students with experienced professionals in the industries.
  • Cultivate career readiness through exposure to real-world challenges, workplace cultures, and industry expectations.
  • Foster personal growth by encouraging reflection, goal-setting, and professional identity formation.
  • Expand networks and build relationships that may lead to internships, job opportunities, or lifelong guidance

Requirements

Completion of an Approved Mentorship Programme
(Minimum Duration: 3 Months, 9 Contact Hours)

Student Intake Cohort

The requirement will be rolled out progressively by student intake cohort:

  • Year 1 entry (4-year curriculum): effective from AY2026/27 intake onwards
  • Year 2 entry (senior year entry): effective from AY2027/28 intake onwards
  • Year 3 entry (senior year entry): effective from AY2028/29 intake onwards

Grading

Complete / Incomplete (with no effect on GPA score), a “Complete” grade is considered to be a graduation requirement of the student.

By the end of the MP, students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of professional expectations and workplace dynamics.

Articulate personal and career development goals informed by mentorship experiences.

Reflect critically on the mentorship journey and its impact on their academic and professional trajectory.

Engage meaningfully with mentors and contribute to a mutually beneficial relationship.

Programme Requirements

All SBUS undergraduate students must complete an Approved Mentorship Programme (AMP) which normally lasts for at least three calendar months with a minimum of nine hours of contacting hours with their mentors during their studies with the university.  An AMP can be:

  • University/School/Department organised mentorship programmes
  • University Centres/Honours Academy organised mentorship programmes
  • Other Mentorship programmes as approved by the SBUS
  • A 1-day Mentor-Mentee Workshop organized by SBUS*

Mentors may be industry professionals, alumni, or faculty members approved by the respective mentorship programmes. Students will have access to mentorship gatherings and workshops, mentee guides, and peer sharing sessions as arranged by the respective mentorship programmes.

 

* only with special approval from the Programme Director / Department. This option is available to final-year students who, despite genuine efforts, are unable to participate in any of the mentorship programmes listed above. This option should be considered as a last resort and students should not take this option for granted. As a result, students need to provide proof of failed attempts to register into mentorship programmes

MP Application Workflow

Students must register their mentorship programme and obtain approval from the Department in the Mentorship Management System (MMS) before commencement. Students can register the information such as programme name, duration, commencement date and etc. using the system. 

Upon completion of the mentorship programme (including the specially approved 1-day workshop), students must submit a three-minute reflective statement in video format via the system.

This video statement should address the followings:

  • Student Introduction
  • Mentorship Objectives
  • Key Learnings
  • Challenges & Growth
  • Impact on Career & Personal Development
  • Feedback & Recommendations

Submission Deadline: Within 2 weeks of mentorship completion
