  • Visit to the Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Limited (HKEX)

On 31 March 2025, the Shenzhen Hong Kong Macau Women Directors Alliance (WDA), Shenzhen Women Finance Professional Association, Association of Women Accountants (Hong Kong) Ltd. (AWAHK), Macau Association of Women Accountants, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (Hong Kong Branch), Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, Hang Seng Bank [Commercial Banking], and the Women in Society Association (WiSA) of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong proudly organised an impactful event aimed at empowering women in finance and fostering collaboration across the region.

The event commenced with a visit to the Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Limited (HKEX). Participants received a comprehensive overview of the exchange’s operations, learning about its pivotal role in the global financial market. The visit included a guided tour of the trading floor and the opportunity to observe live trading activities, providing invaluable insights into the mechanics of securities trading and market operations. Attendees also engaged in discussions about the latest market trends and the importance of regulatory frameworks, enhancing their understanding of the financial landscape.

Following this enlightening experience, attendees enjoyed a guided tour of the Central Market, a historical landmark that has undergone a remarkable transformation. Originally established as a traditional wet market, the Central Market has been revitalised into a vibrant community hub that seamlessly blends history with modernity. Participants explored various retail spaces featuring local artisans, fresh produce, and gourmet food stalls, all within a beautifully restored architectural setting. This revitalisation, spearheaded by the Urban Renewal Authority, aimed to preserve the market’s cultural heritage while creating a dynamic space for social interaction and commerce. Attendees appreciated the importance of such community spaces in fostering local businesses and promoting sustainable practices, highlighting the role of women entrepreneurs within this context.

The day culminated in a seminar titled “Navigating the Future: Insights into Hong Kong’s Economy and Banking Landscape,” held at Hang Seng Bank. This seminar featured an opening speech by Regina LEE Sau Yee, Head of Commercial Banking, and covered a range of pertinent topics, including:

    1. Exchange Rate Trends – Presented by Belle Liang, Chief Investment Officer, IWS.
    2. Global Economic Trends – Insights from Thomas Shik, Chief Economist.
    3. Cross-Border Trade – Analysis by Tim Hui, Managing Director, Head of GTS.
    4. Digital Transformation of Banking Services – Discussion led by Philip Chan, Head of Wholesale Digital.

This event represented a significant opportunity for professionals in the finance and accounting sectors to connect, share knowledge, and explore the evolving landscape of Hong Kong’s economy and banking services.
