    Programme Objective

    The Bachelor of Business Administration (Honours) in Economics Programme aims to equip students with a solid foundation of economics knowledge and training on research skills so that they can conduct economic analysis in decision making and evaluate the impacts of economic issues in a business environment. This programme has many unique features,

    1. The curriculum is extremely flexible. Students are free to choose their favorite elective courses. Elective courses account for 40% of all courses in the third year, and 80% in the fourth year.

    2. We offer lots of internship opportunities to help students acquire practical knowledge and related work experience.

    3. We provide training on professional software specialized in economic analysis (normally offered in overseas master’s and doctoral programs only) to enhance students’ competitiveness in the job market.

    4. We also offer training on diverse tools of data analysis to foster students’ capability in conducting economic analysis for decision making in a business environment.

    Our specially designed modules focus on both quantitative and qualitative analysis as well as training on practical skills such as academic and business-report writing, and presentation skills. We also provide practical training focuses on the analysis of real-world economic issues through hands-on training on a variety of research software programs. Moreover, we provide lots of co-curricular learning activities and internship employment so that students can acquire practical and theoretical  knowledge as well as relevant work experience.

    Employment pathways of our graduates are not confined to specific industries as the knowledge of economics can be applied in different positions offered by government agencies, private sector corporations, financial institutions, think tanks, educational institutions, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

    The programme aims to:

    • develop students’ creativity, critical thinking, analytical ability and problem-solving skills;
    • cultivate students’ communication, interpersonal, leadership, independent learning and other transferable skills;
    • instill in students a strong sense of social responsibility and high commitment to business ethics;
    • enhance students’ global awareness and local sensitivity;
    • equip students with the knowledge of economic concepts and their applications;
    • develop students’ economic analytical ability through training in both theoretical and empirical approaches;
    • furnish students with skills and techniques to become professionals in economics.

     

    Programme Intended Learning Outcomes

    Upon completion of the programme, students should be able to:

    • address professional and personal challenges through the application of inter-disciplinary and multi- disciplinary knowledge acquired;
    • possess effective communication ability in a business environment, work as a team player to integrate effectively the skills and knowledge developed, and be able to manage independent lifelong learning;
    • evaluate own contributions and responsibilities in becoming responsible employees, business leaders and business partners;
    • possess broad horizons and be inquisitive about various global issues and developments such as politics, cultures, social sciences and technologies;
    • possess a body of specialized knowledge and skill-set that enable them to analyze economic issues effectively;
    • conduct policy analysis and evaluate different alternatives in decision making;
    • evaluate the impacts of economic policy in a business environment.

    Admission

    Undergraduate – Year 1 Entry

    Admission Requirements

    The application period for admission to the BBA-FAFT Programme follows those of other programmes offered by HSUHK, which is normally from November of the preceding year of study to August of the year of study.

    The minimum requirements for entry to Year 1 of the Degree Programmes are as follows:

    HKDSE subject 2023 or before 2024 and onwards
    Core Chinese Language Level 3 Level 3
    English Language Level 3 Level 3
    Mathematics (Compulsory Part) Level 2 Level 2
    Citizenship and Social Development1 N/A A (Attained)
    Liberal Studies1 Level 2 N/A
    Elective Others Level 22 Level 23

    Remarks:

    1 “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development will not be included in the admission score calculation. Level 2 or above in Liberal Studies attained in 2023 or before can be regarded as “Attained” in Citizenship and Social Development for fulfilling the general entrance requirements.
    2 For HKDSE taken in 2023 or before, only Category A Elective subjects are taken into consideration of meeting the General Entrance Requirements. Mathematics Extended Part Module 1 / Module 2 is not counted as an elective subject in 2023 or before.
    3 For HKDSE takers starting from 2024 and onwards, Category A Elective subjects (Mathematics Extended Part exclusive), Category B (Applied Learning Subjects) and Category C (Other Language Subjects) can be counted as elective subjects. The minimum requirements are:

    Category A subjects: Level 2

    Category B subjects4: Attained

    Category C subjects: Grade E

    No more than one subject from Category B or Category C will be counted in the Best Five Subject HKDSE score calculation.

    4 Category B: Applied Learning Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) is excluded in score calculation.

    For students who possess qualifications other than the above, your applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

     

    Graduation Requirements

    To be eligible for graduation with the award of the BBA-ECON degree, students must have fulfilled both academic and non-academic graduation requirements:

    • Academic Graduation Requirements
      – obtained a Grade D or above on at least 40 modules (120 credits), including all core modules
      – obtained a CGPA of at least 2.0
      – passed the Information Technology Proficiency Test
      – fulfilled the language competency exit requirements:
    English Putonghua
    Attempt the IELTS (Academic) Test to attain a score of 6.0 or above Attempt the Putonghua Proficiency Test (普通話水平測試) to attain the level of “Third Class Grade B” (三級乙等) or above
    Students who fail to meet this requirement have to take and pass *ENG4000 English Proficiency Course, a 14-week (42 contact hours) non-credit bearing course, at their own cost to make up for the exit requirement. Students who fail to meet this requirement have to take and pass *CHN4000 Putonghua Oral Training Enhancement Course, a 7-week (42 contact hours) non-credit bearing course, at their own cost to make up for the exit requirement.

    *ENG4000 is NOT an alternative arrangement for IELTS. Only Year 3 and 4 students who have attempted IELTS Test at least twice and passed ENG2000 IELTS Preparation Course / IELTS Five-Day Workshops are eligible to take the corresponding enhancement course.

    *CHN4000 is NOT an alternative arrangement for PSC. Only Year 4 students who have attempted the PSC at least once are eligible to take the corresponding enhancement course.

    Students are required to fulfill the Information Technology requirements during their studies at the University. Students should refer to the website of the IT Learning Centre for the details of the relevant policy and scope of programmes offered to students.

    • Non-Academic Graduation Requirements

    To echo with the University’s “Desired Graduate Attributes – iGPS”, a new framework of iGPS Unit and College Assembly – HSUHK Liberal Agora is set to enhance the atmosphere of holistic learning and student development.  

     

    What is iGPS Unit?

    iGPS unit is equivalent to voluntary participation in a non-credit bearing co-curricular activity or event, which is not a course requirement, in relation to the development of iGPS.
