Empowering Diversity and Sportsmanship: My Journey at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong
Introduction
Being a student at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong has provided me with countless opportunities for personal growth, leadership, and community engagement. Over the years, I have actively participated in various sports teams, including football for two years, rugby this year, and cricket for three years. Additionally, I co-founded a student organization called EmPower, which aims to celebrate diversity through talks, activities, and cultural events. In this blog, I will share the highlights of my journey and the impact these experiences have had on my university life.
Sportsmanship and Team Spirit
Sports have always been an integral part of my university journey. Being a member of the football team for two years and rugby this year has taught me the value of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. These sports have not only helped me improve my physical fitness but also fostered a strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among teammates. The thrill of competing in tournaments and representing our university on the field is an experience that will stay with me forever.
Cricket: Reaching the Finals in the Plate Tournament
My passion for cricket led me to join the university cricket team for three years. Last year was particularly memorable as we reached the finals in the Plate Tournament. The journey was filled with intense matches, strategic planning, and unwavering support from teammates. Although we fell short of claiming the championship, the experience taught me the importance of resilience, adaptability, and the joy of competing at a high level.
EmPower: Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion
Alongside my sporting endeavors, I co-founded EmPower, a student organization dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion on campus. Our mission is to provide a platform where students from diverse backgrounds can share their experiences and perspectives. We organize talks featuring esteemed speakers, such as renowned celebrity Vivek, who shed light on the challenges faced by ethnic minorities. In addition, we host engaging activities like war games and cultural days, where students come together to celebrate different traditions, indulge in traditional foods, and play games that foster a sense of unity and understanding.
Cultural Day: A Time for Bonding and Celebration!
One of the most cherished events organized by EmPower is the Cultural Day, an annual celebration of diversity where everyone is welcome to join in the festivities. This special day offers an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in various cultures, try traditional foods, and engage in games that represent different traditions. The event sparks conversations, breaks down barriers, and promotes cultural appreciation and harmony within our university community. It serves as a reminder that our differences are what make us unique and should be celebrated.
Conclusion
My journey at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong has been enriched by my involvement in sports, the creation of EmPower, and the joy of celebrating diversity through events like Cultural Day. Through football, rugby, and cricket, I have learned the value of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. EmPower has allowed me to contribute to the university community by promoting inclusivity and providing a platform for voices to be heard. These experiences have not only shaped my university life but have also instilled in me a deep appreciation for diversity, unity, and the power of coming together as a community.
