To provide potential students with a deeper understanding of the concept of management, the Department organized a taster workshop at the School Gala held on 24 June 2023. We were delighted to have 40 secondary students from local schools to “taste” management in game playing. Before the start of the games, Dr Sally Cheung, the host of the workshop, introduced fundamental concepts within the discipline. The teenagers had the opportunity to apply the concepts they learned in group games afterwards. All of us had a joyful evening of entertainment, food,drinks, and chit-chat with each other. It was a memorable celebration marking the end of the semester. The Department of Management hosted the Chill Club Meal on 5 May 2023. We treat our students with delightful Chinese stewed soup and catering as a boost and encouragement before exams. The series started with a sharing session on 4 April 2023 by Ms Ariel So, a BBA-MGT alumnus and an HR professional from AlphaSights. To celebrate students’ outstanding academic achievement in the second semester of the Academic Year 2021/22, the department organized the first Student Excellence Award Ceremony on 5 November 2022. We were delighted to have 9 students from MGT & GBM achieving cGPA 3.6 or above in the semester. As a recognition, every awardee was awarded a certificate and a voucher. As a part of the Management League activity, the Diversify MGT/ HRM/ GBM was successfully held on 19 Aug 2022. 37 students and academic staff formed three teams, representing MGT, HRM and GBM, and competed for championship via a series of fun and inspiring activities (e.g, Intelligent Challenge, Team Building Games, Campus Run, and Fitness Challenge). With everyone passionately contributed to their team, all three teams had impressive performance across different activities. The Department of Management organized the second Management League in the summer of 2022. The series of activities include photography competition, a lipstick-making workshop and a sports event, Diversify MGT/ HRM/ GBM. The theme for the photography competition was Happy Moment with MGTers / HRMers / GBMers, signifying the three undergraduate programmes of the department. A team of students from BBA-MGT and other programmes, was awarded one of the best 3 teams in the SSRC Consultancy Project (2021-22). The competition provided an opportunity for students to work with entrepreneurs and business executives to deal with real-life problems. The team chose City’s Treasure, a social enterprise aiming at preserving small shops and to promoting neighborhood spirit by providing local tour services to organization, as their project focus. The Department has received a generous donation by InSight4 Analytica, a HR big data analytics platform to provide licensed accounts worth HKD360,000 for lecturers to conduct students-research projects. The workforce analytics software contains three modules: Productivity Benchmarking Portal Internal Labour Market Analysis Staff Size and Compensation Cost Budget Simulator The donation has received an equivalent matched amount of funding from the Research Matching Grant Scheme (RMGS) from the University Grants Committee (UGC) with the project led by Dr Liane Lee, the Principal Investigator.
